Dominican Republic celebrated with enthusiasm

The Day of the Environment

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with the motto Come, think,saves. Reduceyour impact, today theworldcelebrates the world‘senvironment day, which thisyear aims to join forcesagainst the waste and loss of food produced andstored.   In the world are pulled away around 1.3 billiontons of food, according to data fromthe Organization ofUnited Nations food 

and Agriculture (FAO).

Also, itindicates that one of every seven people on the planet is goingwithout eating to bed and more than seven million children less than 5years old die of hunger each year.  As every year, all the 5 June arecelebrated this date to bring awareness to the worldof better care of theenvironment and at the same time improve the quality of life ofhumanbeings.

The United Nations General Assembly established the celebration of this date of December 15, 1972.   Many countries that celebrate this dateleverage in signing or ratifying internationalconventions, and sometimesestablished governmental structures so the growth of the economy andthe environment go hand in hand.

    

Held this Tuesday in Dominican Republic the day of the tree, as each may5.   In several countries it is celebrated this day on different dates, beingSweden the first country in the world to celebrate it in 1840.   The day of thetree, also called World Forestry day, was, in principle, a recommendation ofthe World Forestry Congress which was held in Rome in 1969.    Thisrecommendation was accepted by the United Nations food and Agriculture(FAO) in 1971.  

  

Prior to this proclamation of the FAO, other countries had already institutedin a way independent of the tree, the first day was Sweden in 1840. Thisday is celebrated in different date in each country, but almost always in themonth of may of each year.  On that particular in Dominican Republic, thetree day is celebrated on May 5 each year.   The celebration of this day isintended to the promote the importance of the conservation of trees incitizenship by the multiple environmental benefits that contributeto humansand ecosystems in general.
