The 461,822 cruise ship passengers that arrived to the different ports of the Dominican Republic during the year 2015, the maritime terminal of La Romana received 297.544, equivalent to the 64.4 percent of the total, according to the National Bureauof statistics (ONE) revealed.

 

 

 

  

 

According to the data of the ONE, the country received a total of 510,170 passengers by sea, of which 461,822 (the 90.5%) arrived in cruises and 48,348 (9.5%) on ferries.

A total of 4,923 ships touched the Dominican ports, and 8% (376) of ships were used as a means of transport of persons. According to the type of boat, these vessels 376 58% (218) correspond to cruises and 42% (158) to ferries.

461,822 passengers who arrived in the country through cruises, 164,278 (the 35.6%) did so for the ports of: Santa Bárbara-Samana, with 59,791 (12.9%); Maimon-Puertosilver with 58,962 (12.8%) and Santo Domingo with 45,525 (9.9%), according to collect the national press.

 

  

According to ONE, the year 2015 had a monthly average of 38,485 passengers entering the country by sea and they were transported in about 18 cruise ships, approximately, by month. The monthly average of ferries was 13 in the same period, transporting around 4,029 passengers each month.

In December, both the ferries and cruise ships recorded the highest number of passengers: 8,839 (18%) and 104,332 (23%), respectively, a total of 113,171 people, thusmaintaining the trend marked in previous periods where it is observed that the flowof passengers to the country increases by year's end.
