History
In 1916, according to historical data collected by the Dominican miningauthorities, the priest Miguel Domingo strong Loren, who at that time waspastor of Barahona, was the first to discover the blue rock. On November22 of the same year, he requested permission to explore and exploit themine, but this was rejected since the country was not known this kind ofpectolita.2
In 1974 at a beach on the coast of Barahona, Miguel Méndez and NormanRilling, aPeace Corps volunteer, rediscovered the larimar. The inhabitantsof the area who thought that the rock came from the sea, it was calledBlue Rock. However, its currentnickname we owe to Mendez, who joinedthe word sea, by the colors of the water of the Caribbean Sea, where itwas found, and the name of his daughter, call Larissa, was the word Lari-Mar. The few rocks that found were remains which had been carried to thesea by the Bahoruco River. After a search, found the origin of the rocks, which became the Los Chupaderos mine. This place is the same as thepriest had found in 1916.
