 The House of toasting, today Museum of decorativearts, is headquarters of the Museum of the Dominicanfamily of the 19th century. It was built in the thirddecade ofthe 16th century, by one of the initialsettlers, the notary Francisco de Tostado, whocomesto the Spanish in the expedition of Governor Nicolásde Ovando in 1502. A descendant that carried hisname and surname, toasted Francisco de la Pena,lived here until his death, and is attributed to him have made therein, the firstsonnet of America.

    

Later the House was acquired by the President Buenaventura Báez, a timestillinhabited by his brother Don Damián Báez. Located at the intersection ofCalle Padre Billini and Archbishop Meriño, in what was the southern borderof the historic centre of the city of Santo Domingo, it was first constructionsin stone that, next to theAlcazar and the real houses, by that time, grantedthe city a courtier and sumptuousair.
